When I arrived after a long drive from Cardiff, I was greeted by friendly staff who were knowledgeable about both the lodging, food, and the local area. On the way up to my room for the evening, I noticed gorgeous local art on the walls, most for sale. And both my evening meal and breakfast the next day were inspired. Sunday evening’s meal started with cockles and laverbread, then progressed to Sunday roast, complete with a Yorkshire pudding that was out of this world. A pint of Heavy Industries’ brew complimented my meal, as did the
involved conversation with the friendly bar staff. I started my meal out on the deck, but moved indoors as the air cooled, and can vouch for both outdoor and indoor seating being comfortable and cosy.
After an extremely comfortable and restful night, I went down for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh fruit, homemade granola, and Eggs Royale (similar to Eggs Benedict, but with smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon). Staff happily changed up the order to add laverbread to my plate, and indicated a general willingness to customise dishes and experiences for guests.
Cross Foxes also offer short breaks that include walking guides, packed lunches, and various meal plans. It’s a fabulous, relaxing place to stay, with welcoming staff, delicious food, and breathtaking views. Stop by for a meal and stay for the night—you’ll be glad you did!!
